The God Party

I love Tony Campolo. I love his honesty and sincerity. Take a listen

This looks like it would be fun for about a second

Krump in the park yo!

I remember when I was a kid I would go to concerts and while the band was playing (most likely some metal band) I would head bang.... I would throw my head back and forth, Whip my hair around and just straight up head bang. After a long night of killing brain cells I would rest my little head down on my pillow... The morning would come and I couldn't lift my head up off the pillow... yup whip lash I would spend the whole rest of the week recovering, feeling like my head was on a toothpick. Then saturday would come around again and I would head bang repeating this vicious cycle. I was awesome... All that said I saw this video today and It made me think... If my neck hurt from me throwing it around like that I can only imagine how these people must feel the day after this...

These rock stars hate getting panties thrown at them...

The “Panties for Peace” campaign aimed at Burma’s military regime is gaining momentum, with the establishment of a committee to drum up support in Thailand.

The campaign began on October 16, with women throughout the world sending packages to Burmese embassies containing panties. Burma’s superstitious generals, particularly junta chief Than Shwe, believe that contact with any item of women’s wear deprives them of their power.

“Panties for Peace” campaigns have sprung up in Australia, Europe, Singapore—and now Thailand, where a Lanna Action for Burma committee has been formed in Chiang Mai to support the feminine protest.

Ying Tzarm, a co-founder of Lanna Action for Burma, told The Irrawaddy that the campaign was aimed at undermining the superstitious beliefs of the military regime.

Liz Hilton, a supporter of the Lanna Action for Burma and a member of the Empower foundation, said that by sending underwear to the men of Burma’s overseas embassies women would be delivering a strong message to the regime.

“The SPDC is famous for its abuse of women, so this can be a very strong signal from women around the world supporting the women in Burma,” she said.

“Many feel there’s little we can do. It is like living next to domestic violence when we see the military government brutal crack down in Burma. We can hear that fighting in the next-door house or in the same village. We have tried to talk, we have tried to do many things. But we need to express our feelings.”

In another unusual popular protest action, people in Rangoon are hanging pictures of Than Shwe around the necks of stray dogs. It’s a very serious insult in Burma to associate anybody with a dog.

Graffiti anti-regime messages are also appearing on trains and buses in Rangoon. “Killer Than Shwe” is a popular slogan.

“The people of Burma are doing what they can inside [the country],” said Liz Hilton. “We should do whatever we can outside. Most of us are not politicians, we are not powerful people. But women do have the power of their panties—let’s use that.”

BELIEVE!

Life Wasted

Great lyrics... I claim this as truth
Lyrics by Eddie Vedder
Song Life Wasted

You're always saying that there's something wrong.
I'm starting to believe it's you're plan all along.
Death came around, forced to hear it's song
And know tomorrow can't be depended on

Seen the home inside your head.
All locked doors and unmade beds

Open sores unattended
Let me say just once that

i have faced it, a life wasted.
I'm never going back again.
i escaped it,a life wasted.
I'm never going back again.
having tasted, alife wasted.
I'm never going back again.

the world awaits just up the stairs

What Christians In Myanmar are doing

Thousands of Christians began a fast throughout Burma on Wednesday to pray for the release of arrested pro-democracy protesters and for peace to prevail in Burma.

A local resident in Myitkyina, in upper Burma’s Kachin State, said about 6,000 people from 57 parishes in the Myitkyina region were participating in the fast from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. in various churches. Collections were taken for the relief of needy people.

“They pray for a change of mind by the Burmese military leaders,” he said.

Pastors of some churches were reported to have condemned the junta for its violent crackdown on dissension.

Other fasts were being held in Bamaw, Lashio, Moekaung, Mohnyin, Kengtung, and in Rangoon and Mandalay divisions.

The fasts were organized by members of the Myitkyina-based Kachin Baptist Convention.

The Kachin Independence Organization, the biggest ethnic Kachin ceasefire group, which signed a truce with the Burmese military junta in February 1994, had no comment to make on the fast, a KIO official.

Christians are wierd

Pray for Myanmar (Burma)

As many of you know we at Venture have a strong heart for Myanmar. I was able to travel there last year for 3 weeks and experience the beautiful people and culture. You may also know that we are planning a trip back this December. Right now everything is up in the air with the state of the country right now. I urge you right now to take five minutes to pray for Burma... Pray for the Monks and people who are in prison for standing up for what is right. Pray for the families who have given up so much for this pro democracy movement. Pray for the christians to be a light in this dark time in Myanmar. PRAY FOR CHANGE.

Passion of the...?

My friend Dan wrote this. Its a bit long but very good content

Follow your passions?
by Dan Grassi

Yes. It even makes us smile a bit when we say it. Passions are like personal hits- a play list in our mind of “rather be doing” activities like skiing, fishing, reading, playing music, etc. It is healthy to invest in such activities. It clears our minds, refreshes our souls and regenerates our bodies.

Where I get confused is how the church has got involved with the topic of “passions.”
There’s a hot button phrase that seems to get most congregants attention these days.
“Find ministry within your passions,” we say. We tickle the ears of new, growing, and even seasoned Christians with this jargon. Why? Well, we whole-heartedly believe that if a person finds their true “passion,” and are given the proper “tools” to use this activity to reach others for Christ, that this combination will result in a lasting model for discipleship. In theory, it’s a good idea. I mean who doesn’t want to serve in an area of personal competence or interest? After all, serving God shouldn’t feel like a “job” or “work” right? It might even be fun, one would hope. Is that altogether bad? Again, another good point. We don’t respond to God out of drudgery, duty or obligation. We should respond to God’s grace out of gratitude and love for a God who first loved us.

However, in the midst of the church’s good intentions (and they are) to engage people in service, I think a side of the truth has gotten blurry. When we see new Christians feeding on God supposedly in their passion-filled activities we think all is well. The question I would like to consider is this: Are passions really that accurate in producing faithful followers of Christ?

In my 14 years of ministry, I have counseled dozens of situations where the “faithful” have sat across my desk and explained to me their feelings of hopelessness with a sick child or parent. I’ve prayed with a mother of a drug-addicted son. I’ve watched faithful saints suffer with emotional, psychological and physical ailments. I have also seen amazing life-altering ministry that has resulted from these horrific situations. I’ve seen a family move across the globe to serve Christ in South Africa after a death of a spouse. I’ve seen a mother of a son that died of Leukemia write a book that ministered to probably thousands of families in similar situations. All of these Christians served God passionately, but did they serve out of their “passions.” I seriously doubt whether their personal preferences were consulted.

The point is this. I think we often resist telling the whole truth to the church. We don’t like to say, “you will serve God in this situation or that, even though it is painful.” We know that testing situations build perseverance and perseverance breads character, and character is what is required to live a life of faith. What we resist saying is that most of the time we will not bend a knee to God until we are thrown into a situation where we feel like we are ready to break. That’s a hard “pitch” to sell a congregation during a “ministry fair.”

Ok. Let’s get something clear. I don’t completely disagree with happiness. I’m not a Scrooge. I want a good life like the rest of us. I just think passions are too risky, too over-sold, too inflated, and an often fickle, fair-weathered, air-filled proposition to sell to the church to get them into “service.” Should we be down-in-the-mouth Christians who never serve in our preferred areas or encourage others to do the same? Of course not… I hope to serve God my entire life in my area of strength. However, I submit that the “joy of the Lord” is found deep within the “less desired” situations of our spiritual journey. When we serve God faithfully, no matter the cost, there is a residue of life’s pains and disappointments that bring us closer to what Christ wants for us—a lasting joy. Not a joy that the thrill-seeking, weekend warriors for Christ will nearly experience. I am not being judgmental of the generally satisfaction among Christians and Christian ministry as a whole. We are doing a lot of things right. I’m simply calling the church to re-evaluate our thinking and language. I hope we can satisfy the church with not hollow promises, but something more resonant with humanity, something inspiring, something visceral to the spiritual soul. Isn’t that the kind of passionate Christians we want filling our world? Following your passions? I think we should tell the church the whole story. It’s worth the risk.
